My name is Miss Marisa Tasky! I am a current first grade teacher at a private Catholic school, Our Lady of Sorrows, in Farmington Hills, MI. I currently live in Clawson, MI. I grew up in Farmington Hills, MI, and attended elementary and middle school at Our Lady of Sorrows School. Later, I attended Mercy High School in Farmington Hills. After, I moved to East Lansing, MI, where I attended Michigan State University, and I received my bachelor of Arts in Education. Currently, I am working on my Masters of Arts in Education (MAED) from Michigan State University. Go Green!
My hobbies include reading, kayaking, travelling, cross-stitching, skiing, golfing, playing softball, and enjoying life with friends and family. I am still a huge fan of Michigan State sports, particularly men's basketball and football, and I enjoy grabbing drinks with family and friends to watch every game! I also enjoy spending my summers with my family up north in a small town called Onekama, MI. During the school year, I tutor students during after school hours.
I have been lucky enough to work alongside some of my best friends - ones I have met on the job and ones I have known prior to my job. My current school provides 8th graders a chance to go to Washington D.C. during their final days of middle school. One of my friends, who is an amazing 8th grade history teacher, organized this trip. I was able to experience this trip for the first time since I was a student, alongside some of the greatest coworkers in May 2022!
Graduate Artifacts Showcase
This page is a culmination of my work as a graduate student through Michigan State University's Master of Arts in Education Program (MAED) with a focus in literacy education. Through the MAED program, I have learned that literacy education is a cycle of differentiated instruction, assessment, and reflection on teaching practices. Each section displays different artifacts I have created throughout classes during my time as a graduate student (Fall 2019 - Summer 2022).
Instruction
The video above is a self-made movie I created to teach U.S. symbols to first graders. This video displays some skills in technology I have gained through MSU's graduate program.
The paper above showcases my ability to re-purpose a lesson plan that incorporates technology into the classroom. This lesson plan is a cross-curricular lesson plan that includes science, writing, reading, and technology.
The paper above was created during the beginning of my master's program. This artifact showcases my ability to create a differentiated lesson plan that allows students to connect with literature and analyze it while identifying the main components of literature.
Differentiated Instruction
Differentiated learning should be required across all subject areas to ensure that every student's needs are being met. Differentiation should be used during instruction and assessment to create a comfortable learning environment. Differentiated learning requires high expectations of learning. Teachers should provide many different strategies to learn about a topic, and should also provide a variety of ways for students to show what they have learned during assessment.

Assessment Road Map
Assess a student's prior knowledge of a topic.
Formulate and teach a lesson plan that enhances all student's prior knowledge of a topic.
Assess for understanding using both formal and informal assessments.
Analyze assessment data to check for understanding or misconceptions.
Use assessment data to reformulate lessons to benefit student understanding of a topic.
Use a summative assessment to analyze critical curriculum benchmarks.
Assessment
The artifact above is a paper showcasing my ability to assess student data and implement a plan to help students in their areas of improvement. Assessing students is essential to understand student's areas of strength and areas of weakness.
The artifact above is a paper showcasing my ability to be intentional with every choice I make throughout my instruction. Reflecting on every aspect of my instruction makes for more effective teaching. It is important to assess students using formative and summative strategies in order to fully understand a student and their education.
The artifact above is a paper that was written during my year-long internship through Michigan State University's College of Education. The data was collected from students at Vandenberg World Cultures Elementary School in Southfield, MI. This paper showcases my ability to analyze data to better inform my future instruction.
The artifact above is a paper that was written at the end of my year-long internship in Southfield, MI. This paper showcases my ability to reflect on student learning as well as my own learning.
The artifact above is a paper showcasing my research about the importance of teaching social skills at any age. This paper includes a variety of ways to teach social skills that can appeal to all types of learners, as well as reflecting on why it is important that I teach social skills in my own classroom.
Data Reflection
Data is critical in understanding and communicating student academic progress. Data should be used to guide instruction for singular students as well as the class as a whole. Data can show where student misconceptions are about a topic, and where a teacher can structure lessons to help students. Data can also show where students are mastering curriculum. Data can also be a good resource to communicate information to parents and staff about students.
